New Orleans, continued....

Well of course, after returning home from a well earned Vacation, I paid for it with a helping of hell equal to the amount of happiness I enjoyed the previous week. End effect: no time to update the blog (or do laundry or anything else for that matter!)

So I'll have to post a quick finish up on New Orleans...and it goes a little something like this:

New Orleans was Fantastic! Staying with great friends, seeing great parades, drinking until we couldn't drink no more....and experiencing the lovely sights and warm, genuinely nice people of New Orleans.

We were half tempted to stay.

It was a fantastic time. And Mardi Gras was a blast!

We are already planning a trip back for the big Jazz festival. It's worth the trip for the beauty of the city, but it's a city that can really use your tourist dollars, and there is a lot to learn about how people are getting on, and our government has, and continues to treat it's poor with contempt. We heard stories that break heart. Hopefully the photos show a little of the glory and the pain that is New Orleans.

And speaking of photos. I've got over 400 of them. If you want to see some, let me know. I'm happy to share.

Thx David, Cheech, Phe, Candice and of course Kathy.

Mardi Gras - New Orleans 2007 - Night 1

It's all about the beads...
Mardi Gras with good friends in New Orleans. It's an opportunity we couldn't say no to. Or friends are renting a place on the edge of the French Quarter within walking distance of everything. A big, lovely place. So of course we'll take them up on the offer to come and stay with them!

1st night in, barely off the plane and Cheech has us out at our first Parade. And it is one of the best: Endymion. It's cold, so we bundle up and head out. We stop at the liquor store (is there any other kind of store here?) and buy some REALLY overpriced Korbel, pop the corks and watch the parade. Before you know it, we've got Bead-Fever, and we're screaming and yelling for whatever the masked krewe will bless us with. (Somehow Styx and Journey where featured guests!). It's a crazy fun drunken free-for-all. Thank goodness for Joe's Monkey-arms...they come in great for catching!

Like the classy drunks we are, we stumbled home with our empty Champagne bottles...and somehow, Joe and I stumbled back out again til 5am. Everyone is nothing if not social here. The bars stop serving just about long enough to clear away the puke and urine, and start serving the breakfast Beer. Ohhhh...the hangovers.

More to come...hic

merry xmas and a ho ho ho to you

So it was home for the hellidays and a whirlwind trip it was. Lots to cover on this trip, including the impending selling of the home I grew up in and my Mother's home. Ugh. Not the most relaxing subjects to deal with during the visit, but very necessary. Without a camera, and only the phone, I wasn't able to snap many pics. But among the highlights for Joe was seeing Katie and Kyle, his mother's dogs. They are like spring-loaded dog cannons that shoot off the floor at full blast into his arms. Hilarious!

It was great to see the kids and the family, but the trip was far too short to ever just relax. But the coffee....ahhhh the coffee.
This is about the only pic I got so far! Brynn may be beautiful, but I think this picture says how tired I think we all were. Ah well. There's always next year.

Happy Halloween!

A pic I drew just for this Halloween!
Here's wishing everyone some messy pumpkin carving, monsterous scares, a great time partying, an exceptional hangover, many embarassing cell phone pictures and movies (dumped to U-tube) and a slew of gossipy whispers this All Hallows Eve. I know I'll be wearing sequined hotpants this year. Hope you will too.

I predict this years WeHo outfit of the moment will be Madonna (in purple leotard) with a black baby-doll. I'm also betting on seeing a Senator Foly or two, and maybe a Courtney Love looking for handouts.

Happy Halloween!

Bikini Whacks!

Last night Joe and I hit the Silverlake cabaret scene at a cute little showspace in the basement of a horrible Mexican Restaurant (though the full bar makes it all worth while). Mr. Dan, local promoter (and my favorite Drag personality; Gina Lotrimin), puts on amazing shows here, and we really need to remember to get out there more often. This time around, it was Nadja Ginsburg heading up a revue with special guests Mario Diaz and Robbie D (all on MySpace for those who want to check in with the hipsters) and a really great magician too. Nadia performed hilarious stand-up/monologues in various characters. Robbie D offered up mesmerizing performaces of several songs, and the magician was a riot. Aftewards we met some of the Nadja posse - all really lovely people. A great night. Check out the Cavern Club offerings here:

Joe mounts the bedroom lights

These photos were actually taken in order to sell the 2 extra lamps we have on Craigslist. They are gorgeous lamps each consisting of 8 pieces of handmade glass. They cast a really great light, especially when mounted on the brick-work grey felt walls and next to the white leather Cali-King (below in the photo is a little side table by Martin & Carter with some groovy Jonathan Adler pieces arranged to help sell the lights. Later, when it's is actually done I'll post some pics of the finished room. But for now, enjoy this moment of design zen. (Joe is really good at this stuff!)
